|
Anyone interested in what we've been up to the past few months should check out www.nemhain.com, where we've put up a sneak preview of our cover of The Gits' Second Skin, with guest vocals from Peter Dolving from The Haunted.
Happy listening!

My Personality
| | Neuroticism | | Extraversion | | Openness to Experience | | Agreeableness | | Conscientiousness | |
| You rarely get angry and it takes a lot to make you angry, however you often resist any cravings or urges that you have, but sometimes you give in. You like crowds but sometimes feel overwhelmed by them. Sometimes you feel like you need some privacy and time for yourself. You prefer the security and stability brought by conformity to tradition. You dislike confrontations and are perfectly willing to compromise or to deny your own needs in order to get along with others, however you are not affected strongly by human suffering, priding yourself on making objective judgments based on reason. You are more concerned with truth and impartial justice than with mercy. You are well-organized and like to live according to routines and schedules. Often you will keep lists and make plans.

4:47 pm - Musical Ramblings
|
Got back last night from 2 weeks on Sweden, and it's just dawning on me that we've actually recorded a real album. With songs and everything. Weird.
There's 13 songs, comprising a mixture of the stuff we've already done, a cover and 3 brand new tracks (one of which sounds like a mixture of Sabbath and Entombed and is my new favourite song!) I've got epic callouses from spending a week playing bass solidly, and shredded vocal chords, from last week's adventures in backing vocals, which ranged from singing, harmonies, whispering and shouting, to full-on blood-curdling screams!
The rest of the band are still out there for the mixing, and I'm back at my desk in jolly old London, feeling extreme withdrawal from all the noise, and desperate to hear the mixed versions of everything!
Can't wait to actually play some of the songs live now!

Having recently discovered Witchery, nothing makes me happier than when the random function on my iPod selects one of their symphonies as the soundtrack to my journey to work. This morning, I bounced up the stairs to "Born in the Night", which is definitely my song of the month :D

11:39 am - Writer's Block: Repeat After Me...
|
L-I-S-A
4 letters; 2 syllables. Short "i", hard "s". Not really much room for error, but certain members of my OWN FAMILY seem absolutely convinced that it is pronounced with a long "i" and soft "s" ( Leeeeeeza). It's not. >:( Then there's the issue of shortening an already short name to Lis (read Lease); semi-appropriate, I suppose, given that I work in property, but really, is the breath saved by not pronouncing that extra syllable really going to make a significant difference to your life expectancy?!
Another matter entirely is my mother, who regularly calls me and my sister by each other's names, but that's probably just senility setting in ...

1:28 pm - STAND UP, ANDY KNIFTON!!!
|
Thank you so much to everyone who made it over to Bar Monsta last night for our first gig: You guys rocked, and we had a fucking excellent time!
It was so cool to look out and see so many friends, especially those who had reanimated themselves from killer hangovers (Seamus' barbecue brigade, you know who you are!) to come and get a headache from our noise! Then there were those who travelled from far away places such as Japan, Trowbridge and Sandy for rock n roll and sexy cocktails! Jon Ward: You have no idea how much your words of enthusiasm and support were appreciated prior to the gig. Seamus: We knew you'd be there headbanging, come hell or high water (or hangover!), and you didn't disappoint - next time we'll expect you to start a circle pit for the last song! Caz n Chaz: Thanks for running away from the orange planes, and for turning up despite being ill and blonde. Caff: Can't wait to see the footage from your cinematographical genius - can we come and watch it over a fry-up? Dave and the other photographers -it was very surreal to see so many flashes goig off, so there'd better be some good pics!
I know I haven't mentioned everyone, but if you were there, you were greatly appreciated, and you made our night! You'd jolly well better all turn up at the next one!

12:52 pm - NEMHAIN: COME TO OUR GIG OR DIE!
|
Just in case there's anybody on here who we haven't already hassled a million times, our first gig is this Sunday (Aug 27th) at Bar Monsta in Camden (next to Sainsbury's car park). We're onstage at about 9.30, and the mighty Bloody Mary (www.bloody.it) are headlining (so we will be sneaking off to enjoy the bar!) The next day is a bank holiday, so there's no excuses for not turning up!
Tickets should be available on the door (£5 or £6 full price, or £3 if you can make up some elaborate hoax that you are an "industry" person: well-counterfeited proof will be required!)
You've been warned ...

11:08 pm - Home Again
|
Back from Antwerp, well-rested and ready for a few more days of holiday during which to hit the sales, the gym and read another of my new books.
Belgium was excellent, although it wasn't until the last hour there today that James remembered a small but significant corner of the city that contains some good clothes shops, interesting architecture and THE GUYLIAN FLAGSHIP STORE!!! This utopian enclave comprises a cafe offering various chocolate-laced drinks and confections, as well as a reliable supply of the legendary Seahorse of Joy alcoholic chocolate praline drink.
Not sure how well the chocolate stash will work with the planned gym assault, but these things must be done!

2:19 pm - Misery, Rubber and Reptiles
|
A quick run-through the events of the action-packed last weekend:-
Thursday: Installed, and instantly got sucked into The Sims. Sitting, helpless in front of the computer, I watched as they set things on fire, pissed themselves and in some cases, lost it completey, no matter what I did to try and appease them. Somehow lost about 4 hours int he process of doing this, and have concluded that the artificially fast Sims clock can affect the real world if you sit too close to the monitor.
Friday: Took the brave step of spending a night away from the Sims and ventured out instead to partake of northern misery at MDB at the Astoria, accompanied by the omnipresent blonde and the favourite celtic partner in metaaaaaal. Ended up, as usual in Garlic and Shots, but we somehow made it home at a very civilised 5am.
Saturday: Awoke to the blonde one having sprouted a miraculous beard overnight. Apparently the secret of epic beardage lies in the consumption of vast amounts of Gammaldansk at G&S! Took our extremely hung-over guest, Mr Hudson to Blackheath for fixing via copious amounts of fried stuff and coffee before going home to change into clothing incredibly inappropriate for the majority of the evening's festivities. Dusted off the favourite latex catwoman-ish evening dress type-thing, shined it up and headed off to Highgate for the early shift at a whisky-tasting evening chez Pierre. While feeling somewhat underdressed, I discovered that I can actually taste the difference between different types of apparently good types of highland booze, but still have no desire whatsoever to drink it. I think I'll stick to delicious creamy cocktails and gay pink wine! Next stop was one drink at the Marlborough Head and a surreal chat about intergalactic penguins with Mr WP before heading swiftly off to the Erotica party to support the Celt, Crab, Liv and Lydia in their lube-wrestling antics.
Sunday: The highlightof the weekend: A relatively early start, with a mission to venture out and procure frozen rodents for the snakelet. He seems to have really got into the feeding routine, and started looking round for food as soon as we put him in the feeding box. On presenting him with the biggest, and fattest mouse he has attempted yet, he instantly snapped at it, and we then spent the next 15 minutes watching in awe as he completely dislocated his lower jaw and squeezed it down. At one point, when the mouse was halfway down the throat but the back legs and tail were still hanging out, he looked like an overstretched sock, as the scales had stretched apart to accommodate a meal that was close to a third of his body size. Left him for a couple of days to enjoy the new hide and digest his meal (he has completely outgrown his original plastic flowerpot hide, and it kept flying off whenever he tried to squeeze under it!) Took him out yesterday to show Liv, and he is now seriously growing; we think his xmas present is going to have to be a bigger tank!

11:24 pm - Kancho
|
Today my dear friend Bart called all the way from Japan to wish me a happy and dementia-free decline into agedness. Having seen his spectacular blog, detailing his epic adventures, I was inspired to dust the cobwebs off my own neglected musings. My favourite story from Japan so far concerns Kancho ; an apparently normal playground prank in Japan, involving one person distracting another while an accomplice sneaks up behind them and rams their fingers, through clothes, into their arse! Keeping your back against the wall is not an option, and the only way to block an attack is to carry someone on your back, at which point they become the focus of the mighty kancho-ing! I think I'll give teaching in Japan a miss ...
In other news, I had a most excellent birthday weekend, with good friends, good booze and omnipresent metaaaaal; I'm off to deepest darkest Taunton for work tomorrow; and am currently watching, with morbid fascination, the MC Hammer biography film: car-crash TV at its very best!
